NOT IN OUR NAME! Sustainable public mass transportation now

The Issue

Commuters oppose the further commercialization of public transport through the PUV Modernization Program (PUVMP) - leading to more transportation system problems including higher fares. Let's sign, share and send this to networks of consumers, commuters and various sectors, local and national government agencies, and media here and overseas.

The PUVMP has yet no comprehensive plan that assures commuters that it can solve the Metros’ chaotic traffic, stubborn car-centricity, lack of public rides, long traveling and waiting time, the disappearance of public vehicle- plied routes, and the increasing cost of transportation.

What it has shown is that jeepney consolidation into mostly imported and expensive modern fleets and cooperatives has only forced especially our jeepney drivers to comply even if this meant being further buried in debt. Given the increasingly inefficient commercial transportation system, more and more commuters contend with either costly main and last mile rides, longer queues and travel time, or getting to their destinations on foot.

Not in our name, commuters say again. The PUVMP only takes away from small jeepney drivers, operators and commuters who earn and have a little, while giving so much to big local and foreign businesses including the involved manufacturers, assemblers, importers, rebuilders, and dealers. This should be scrapped, and instead, a truly comprehensive economic transformation that includes forging the transport sector into one that is genuinely efficient, affordable, safe, environmentally-sound and reliable should be undertaken with people’s active participation.

No to PUV Phaseout!

PUVMP: Not in commuters' name!

Commuters stand with transport workers!

Sustainable public mass transport now!

Transport for the people, not big business!

Fight for an efficient, affordable, safe, envi-sound, reliable transport!
