Problem
Dr. Satoshi Kanazawa's request to conduct research on Northwestern's campus was approved without scrutiny. Much of his past research is considered to be offensive.

Dr. Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary "psychologist" and intelligence researcher, is spending a year-long sabbatical from The London School of Economics and Political Science in Evanston. Kanazawa’s research on the relationships between intelligence, race, health and gender has provoked criticism. In 2011, he wrote an article titled “Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women” during his time as a blogger for Psychology Today. He was later removed from the site as a blogger, and the post was deleted.

Since then, he has continued in a similar line of study. One research paper, published in 2015, associated life satisfaction with an area’s ethnic composition, concluding that minority groups are not as happy as “white Americans.” Another, published in 2012, explained an apparent race difference in intelligence. He also defines feminism as "the radical notion that women are men," and published an article in 2011 entitled, "Are All Women Essentially Prostitutes?" He also published an article in Psychology Today, entitled “What’s Wrong with Muslims,” in which he argues that half of Muslims worldwide are terrorists and active supporters of terrorism.

Solution
Kanazawa is just one in a growing number of academics using his intellectual identity to promote racism, sexism and xenophobia.
Kanazawa's misogynoir nonsense should not be tolerated on Northwestern's campus, a campus that prides itself with its commitment to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.

Kanazawa's fraud research and studies reflects modern eugenics, and Northwestern should be ashamed of approving his application to conduct research in Evanston.

If Northwestern is serious about its mission to help create and sustain a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment for all Northwestern community members including students, faculty, staff and alumni, Dr. Satoshi Kanazawa's approved request should be overturned, and denied.

The psychology department also needs to revamp the screening process for visiting scholars, and include student voices in the process.
