Stop Supporting Animal Cruelty

The Issue

My name is Alison and I live in Dekalb, Illinois. I've always thought of Dekalb to be more forward-thinking when it comes to animals and the environment. That is why I was so shocked to learn that the Huskie Stadium of NIU contracts with Sodexo, a food service company involved in a very dirty practice:  Sodexo uses liquid eggs from cruel, filthy, and unsustainable battery-cage farms.

Battery cage farms pack egg-laying hens so tightly into tiny wire cages that they can’t even spread out their wings or engage in any of their natural behaviors.

This archaic practice is so cruel that it is illegal in the entire European Union and several states in the US.  Other major companies like Unilever, Delaware North Companies, Burger King, and more have made commitments to phase out the purchasing of all eggs from farms that use this terrible practice. Sodexo even refuses to work with the The Humane League, an animal protection organization that I volunteer for, to assure they will phase out eggs from cruel battery-cages.

Why then is Huskie Stadium contracting with a hospitality company like Sodexo?  By contracting with Sodexo, Huskie Stadium is directly supporting this cruel practice.  When I learned that this cruelty was being supported in my hometown, I knew that I had to do something about this problem. Please, sign my petition and ask Huskie Stadium to urge Sodexo to end this extreme animal cruelty and completely phase out the use of battery-cage eggs.
