I am a concerned parent at a Broken Bay primary school — St Kevin’s Catholic Primary School, Dee Why,  and I am deeply troubled by the recent decision from Catholic Schools Broken Bay (CSBB) to implement a dual‑principal model across 14 primary schools in our diocese.

This includes the 10 Northern Beaches schools:
Maria Regina (Avalon), Sacred Heart (Mona Vale), St Joseph’s (Narrabeen), St Rose (Collaroy), St John the Apostle (Narraweena), St Kevin’s (Dee Why), Our Lady of Good Counsel (Forestville), St Martin’s (Davidson), St Mary’s (Manly), and St John the Baptist (Freshwater)

And 4 North Shore schools:
St Patrick’s (Asquith), St Bernard’s (Berowra), St Gerard’s (Carlingford), and Our Lady Help of Christians (Epping).

This issue directly impacts our children’s safety, stability, and learning environment.

When families like mine received notice of the dual‑principal restructure, the decision was already a done deal. There was no prior discussion, no opportunity for input from parents or staff, and this lack of transparency is both frustrating and concerning. It feels as though our voices,  and those of our children, who are the most affected,  have been disregarded.

As a parent, it is crucial for me to understand how this new model aligns with the NSW Education Act and meets NESA (New South Wales Education Standards Authority) standards. Schools play a vital role in nurturing the future of our kids, and decisions about their education. 

Moreover, the unresolved Fair Work dispute casts further doubt on this rollout. How can such significant structural changes proceed when employment concerns within our education system remain unsettled? Ensuring that our educators are treated fairly and operate in a stable working environment is essential for the quality of education our children receive.

I believe decisions impacting our children should be made with genuine involvement from parents, teachers, and the school community.

I urge CSBB to pause the dual‑principal rollout immediately. This pause should remain in place until the Fair Work dispute is fully resolved and a comprehensive consultation with parents, staff, and community members is conducted.

We deserve transparency and respect in matters affecting our children’s future. Let’s stand together and demand that CSBB prioritise genuine consultation and a thorough resolution process.
