We need more indoor basketball facilities on the Northern Beaches

Manly Warringah Basketball Association (MWBA) is the only BNSW affiliated provider for basketball on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. MWBA operates from the Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre (NBISC) in Warriewood, and utlilises some surrounding satellite venues to cater for its ever-growing competitions.

NBISC a 6-court facility built on Department of Education land that is managed by the NBISC Board of Management. This facility is a true multi-sport facility that is used for regular basketball, netball and volleyball competitions, not just the MWBA. MWBA only gets access to the facility as is becomes available through NBISC. Satellite venues are single-court school venues, not to the same standard as NBISC.

Since 2010 the participation rates of players with the MWBA has increased by 400%, which has far surpassed the courts available to them. Currently the MWBA regrettably and unavoidably turns away teams every competition, as they can just not fit the competitions in to the limited courts available on the Northern Beaches.

We petition the Northern Beaches Council to address the lack of INDOOR basketball facilities, and urge them to build more centres to cater for the ever-growing population of basketball players on the Northern Beaches.
