15 May 2025:

Over several months, Crowle Town Council has developed a consistent policy — not of engagement, but of silence. And that silence speaks volumes.

As documented in previous posts [see list at the end of this post], our efforts to raise legitimate concerns with Crowle Town Council have been met not with engagement, but with evasion.

This post revisits what’s missing — and what that silence says.

If you visit the town of Crowle, North Lincolnshire, you’d be forgiven for not noticing (pun intended) the notice boards in the Market Place, right in the centre of this little town.

Why? That’s because they are BLANK! Not even with any protective glass or plastic covering.

And yes, they *are* the town notice boards, because we asked at the Community Hub (containing the local library), and the Co-Op, also situated in the Market Place.

However, there ARE official notice boards - tucked away at the local cemetery, about half-a-mile away, on Mill Road, which also happens to be where Crowle Town Council have their offices - not that you’d know it, unless you do some serous investigating, first!

So - what is on their notice boards? Any Council business?

Not really. Just office opening times, Council meeting date up to April 2025 (our visit took place on 1 May!), and a notice about the Mayoral Elections. Nothing else.

Now - compare this to the neighbouring town, Epworth. There, in the Market Place, again in the centre of town, is their Town Council Notice Board, with notices behind a sturdy glass covering.

A closer look at the notices, on our visit on 15 May, reveals agendas for recent meetings by both the planning & personnel committees.

On each agenda, there is a helpful section entitled: “public participation”, which explains: “members of the public may speak... however public participation shall not exceed 15 minutes”.

15 minutes - NOT 5 minutes as per Crowle Town Council, which they recently reduced to a paltry 3 minutes - and that’s if you’re allowed to attend, assuming, of course you can find their offices!

 A systemic pattern?

When residents ask questions, the rules tighten. When officials dodge responsibility, the rules go missing. That’s not governance — that’s gatekeeping.

Crowle Town Council isn’t just ignoring questions — it’s erasing them. And when silence becomes official policy, it’s time to call that what it is: a form of obstruction.
