I met with council leader Rob Waltham yesterday to discuss what options; if any, he might consider supporting to make the area safer. I asked about the possibility of a footbridge to replace the traffic lights and also about widening the footpath on Doncaster Road that runs adjacent to the Berkeley Hotel, I know there has been at least one incident where a pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle whilst walking on this stretch of footpath. Rob wouldn't commit to making any of these changes but he didn't rule them out completely so I'm hopeful something may get done before a serious incident happens. I will continue to push for signatures whilst at the same time lobbying the council to re-consider the decision not to invest in the area, please lobby your councillor if you feel it will help, you can get their e-mail off the North Lincolnshire Council website. The petition hit the first landmark of 500 signatures yesterday and this will secure me a meeting to formally discuss the options if I submit the petition now, my preference would be to get the 1,500 we need to get it debated at a full council meeting.
