A school crossing patrol for Woodlands Primary & Glencryan
The Issue
Woodlands Primary and Glencryan Primary sit opposite each other on the VERY busy Greenfaulds Road that has a high school at either end. In addition this road is the main bus route and also services the local train station, as such it is an extremely busy road. There is no parking available at Woodlands Primary so the only options available to parents dropping off children are to park by the side of the road (exacerbating the problem) or park across the road in the train station car park and take their own and their children's life in their own hands as they try to navigate across the busy road with cars U-turning, parked on pavements and an excessive level of traffic at that time in the morning and afternoon.
Woodlands have requested a crossing patrol several times to no avail. All we ask is that the council consider providing this requested crossing patrol to assist in crossing over this busy thoroughfare. This would allow parents to park across the road in the train station car park and safely cross over with their children to the school.
With this petition we would like to gather support to show the council that this is not a nicety but a NECESSITY - is the safety of our school children not important? What is the justification for not providing a crossing patrol?
