The Issue

We respectfully call upon the Norwegian Nobel Committee to consider Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny, for nomination to the Nobel Peace Prize.

At the Super Bowl Halftime Show, one of the most watched global broadcasts in the world, Bad Bunny delivered a powerful 13-minute performance that reached millions of viewers across cultures, languages, and national boundaries. His message was simple yet profound: “The only thing more powerful than hate is love.”

In a time marked by polarization, division, and rising intolerance, this message resonated worldwide. Through music, cultural pride, and inclusive storytelling, Bad Bunny used one of the largest platforms on Earth not merely for entertainment, but for unity.

His performance demonstrated:

  • A call for tolerance across racial, cultural, and linguistic lines
  •  Representation of Latin culture on a global stage
  • A message centered on love as a counterforce to hate
  •  The unifying power of art during a period of global tension

Artists have historically shaped movements, softened divisions, and built bridges between communities. Cultural diplomacy matters. Representation matters. Words matter.

Bad Bunny’s global influence extends far beyond music charts. He has consistently used his platform to advocate for dignity, equality, and cultural pride, particularly for underrepresented communities.

However, this nomination is not based on a single performance. It reflects a broader pattern of sustained humanitarian engagement and civic leadership.

In 2018, Bad Bunny founded the Good Bunny Foundation (Fundación el Buen Conejo), a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting underserved youth in Puerto Rico through music, arts, and sports. The foundation has distributed tens of thousands of toys, musical instruments, and sports equipment to children in economically challenged communities, creating access to creative expression and positive development opportunities.

Following Hurricanes Irma and María, he partnered with fellow artists and nonprofit organizations to contribute $1.6 million toward rebuilding baseball fields across Puerto Rico. These reconstructed spaces restored safe recreational environments for thousands of young people and helped strengthen community resilience during a period of deep crisis.

He has also made targeted financial contributions to health-related charities, including substantial donations to organizations serving children with serious medical conditions.

Beyond philanthropy, Bad Bunny has consistently used his public platform to advocate for accountability, dignity, and social justice in Puerto Rico. He has participated in civic demonstrations calling for political reform and has amplified issues affecting marginalized communities, including economic inequality, gender-based violence, and displacement.

The Nobel Peace Prize has historically recognized individuals who expand the boundaries of peacebuilding. Peace is not only negotiated at diplomatic tables. It is also cultivated through cultural leadership, representation, and the elevation of shared humanity across divides.

Bad Bunny’s influence extends across continents, languages, and generations. Through music, philanthropy, and civic engagement, he has demonstrated that cultural power can foster solidarity, dignity, and hope.

In a world increasingly fractured by hate, his message — and his actions — affirm that love, unity, and opportunity remain transformative forces.

We urge the Norwegian Nobel Committee to recognize the measurable humanitarian contributions and global cultural impact of Bad Bunny and to consider his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Think about that for a moment. During that time, billions of people around the world were focused on the same thing. They were not fighting each other. For a brief moment, there was at least a small sense of shared attention and peace across the globe.
