No ULA for Wildfire Victims

The Issue

Petition to Stop ULA Taxes on Homeowners Displaced by LA County Wildfires

To: Los Angeles City Council, Mayor of Los Angeles, and all relevant officials

The recent wildfires in Los Angeles County have left countless homeowners devastated, many have lost their homes entirely, while others are dealing with severe smoke damage that has rendered their properties uninhabitable. Now, as these families struggle to rebuild, they are being unfairly burdened by the United to House LA (ULA) tax, which adds a massive financial penalty if they are forced to sell their damaged properties.

We demand an immediate moratorium on ULA taxes for any homeowners who have suffered a total loss or significant damage due to the wildfires. These taxes were never meant to punish disaster victims who are simply trying to recover.

Why This Matters:

Wildfire victims are already facing immense financial hardship. Many are waiting on slow-moving insurance claims, paying for temporary housing, and struggling with rebuilding costs.

The ULA tax was not designed for disaster scenarios. Forcing displaced homeowners to pay an excessive tax when selling their damaged property only deepens their crisis.

Developers and investors will be discouraged from purchasing and rebuilding these properties at fair market value. If the ULA tax remains in place, many homes will sit abandoned or be sold at steep discounts, further harming communities rather than revitalizing them.

Our Demand:

The City of Los Angeles must immediately suspend the ULA tax for homeowners who are selling their properties due to wildfire damage, with a moratorium lasting no less than five years that applies to the homeowner and the purchaser of the property. This will give displaced families the time needed to recover, ensure a fair rebuilding process, and prevent long-term economic harm to affected communities.

Sign this petition to tell LA officials: Do not let egregious taxes stand in the way of wildfire recovery! Protect displaced homeowners and encourage fair market reinvestment.
