ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: Mum physically Assaulted and verbally abused at Truganina Lions Football Club, by the Club Secretary at the club house – Stop Bullying and Protect Our Children in Sport

Petition for Accountability, Safety and Respect in Community Sport

We, the undersigned members of the community, are calling for urgent action regarding serious concerns surrounding the treatment of a parent and family connected to Truganina Lions Football Club.

A mother attended the club to advocate for her child and discuss concerns regarding their participation in the sport they love. Following this interaction, she was physically assaulted and verbally abused. A parent was also a witness to the incident. A police complaint was made and Victoria Police upon interviewing the witness, agreed to make a report.

Truganina Lions Football Club has not stood down the Secretary and has conveniently ignore any investigations.

No parent should ever fear intimidation, verbal abuse, physical aggression, discrimination, or retaliation for advocating for their child.

Community sporting clubs exist to develop children, build confidence, encourage teamwork, and bring families together. They should be places of safety, respect, inclusion, and fairness—not environments where parents feel threatened, silenced, or punished for speaking up.

Why This Matters

This petition is not about winning games, team selection, or club politics.

This is about:

* Protecting children and families participating in community sport.

* Ensuring women are treated with dignity and respect.

* Preventing bullying, intimidation, and abuse of power.

* Holding leaders and committee members accountable for their conduct.

* Creating safe environments where concerns can be raised without fear of retaliation.

* Restoring trust and confidence in community sporting organisations.

Our Concerns

The community is concerned by reports that:

* A formal police statement was lodged regarding an alleged assault occurring on club premises.

* Serious concerns raised by a parent have not been adequately addressed.

* Families feel intimidated or discouraged from speaking up.

* The welfare and wellbeing of those affected have not been prioritised.

* The handling of the matter has undermined confidence in the club’s governance and leadership.

We Call For

We respectfully call upon Truganina Lions Football Club, Football Victoria, Football Australia, and Sport Integrity Australia to:

✅ Conduct an independent and transparent investigation into the incident and subsequent handling of the matter.

✅ Review whether appropriate safeguarding and member protection procedures were followed.

✅ Ensure that all parents, volunteers, coaches, and players are treated with dignity and respect.

✅ Strengthen policies relating to bullying, harassment, discrimination, intimidation, and conflict resolution.

✅ Guarantee that no parent, child, volunteer, or family experiences retaliation for raising genuine concerns.

✅ Demonstrate accountability and commitment to creating a safe sporting environment for everyone.

Our Message

Children are watching.

They learn from the behaviour of adults around them.

When parents are silenced, intimidated, or mistreated, it sends the wrong message to every child participating in community sport.

We believe that sport should build character, not fear.

We believe that every parent deserves to be heard.

We believe that every child deserves a safe and positive sporting environment.

And we believe that accountability should apply to everyone, regardless of their position within a club.
