The Central Bank of the Philippines  announced on Dec 11, 2020, that they will be replacing the image of World War II heroes Jose Abad Santos, Josefa Llanes Escoda, and Vicente Lim on the 1000-peso bill with that of the Philippine Eagle. Seeing these martyrs on this bill is a daily reminder to Filipinos of age-old values of love of country, self-sacrifice, and valor, something that the Philippine Eagle despite its majesty and splendor, cannot replace. The 1000-peso bill is the only paper bill featuring martyrs, not politicians. So, it's really sad to see them go. Is this how a supposedly grateful nation pay tribute to our war heroes? 

To BSP Governor Diokno and the monetary board - why not put the Philippine Eagle at the back of the bill? Makes more sense that it be placed alongside the giant pearl, another natural wonder. If it is true that you want to feature Philippine flora and fauna, then update all the bills by putting these at the back, but please do not remove our heroes.

To NHCP - as you lead our country in commemorating and memorializing historic events and people, and preserving our historic past - we call on you to veto this new design.
