We, the undersigned, are opposed to the Priory Road Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN), otherwise described as a model filter, being planned by Birmingham City Council for the following reasons:

1.       Will displace traffic onto already congested stretches of Vicarage Road and Cartland Road frequented by school children accessing King Edwards School and other vulnerable people in the community such as those residing in an elderly care centre and sheltered housing accessed from the stretch of Vicarage Road between Pineapple Road and Cartland Road. Will also increase traffic on Newlands Road and Lewis Road in Stirchley.

2.       Will displace traffic onto neighbouring residential Pineapple Road and the hazardous junction with Cartland Road located alongside the Pineapple railway station, currently under construction and where a high numbers of pedestrians, including school children, are expected to cross at or in close vicinity of the junction once the station is open.

3.       Will further inhibit access to, from and within Kings Heath, and between Stirchley and Kings Heath to the detriment of the local economy and will being of the community and wider area;

4.       Will delay, and most likely obstruct, access to emergency vehicles has been witnessed since Phase 1 of the Kings Heath LTN was installed in 2020.

5.       Those living on Priory Road may benefit from a quieter road but they too will have to endure the increased congestion and driver frustration when accessing to and from a more congested Vicarage Road and Pineapple Road. There is also the frustration caused by delivery drivers and more importantly delays to the emergency services.

6.       Birmingham City Council officials and local councillor’s for ‘Brandwood & Kings Heath’ and ‘Stirchley’ appear to have gone out of their way to restrict publicity of this proposal. It appears the council have chosen to only leaflet properties adjoining Priory Road. This could be seen as a ploy to deliberately manipulate and limit the number of objections whereas the road closure will have an impact on a wider area.

7.       The further roll out of LTN road blocks in Kings Heath will further increase the division and animosity caused within the local community to the detriment of peoples’ well being and also to the economic viability and vitality of the community as has been demonstrated since the implementation of Phase 1 and proposals to implement Phase 2 and numerous surveys showing a majority opposed to the LTNs in Kings Heath.

8.       I request that more emphasis be placed on capping public transport fares and making public transport safer and more reliable including night services on main highway corridors such as Pershore Road and Alcester Road.

9.       Concerned that Birmingham City Council has chosen to only notify by leaflet drop residents on Priory Road and not others residing on roads where traffic will be displaced such as Vicarage Road and Pineapple Road or the wider area who would be affected by this proposal if implemented.

This petition will be submitted to Birmingham City Council on 23rd May 2025.

Please submit your objections to Garry Dalton at Birmingham City Council including your name and address to:  garry.dalton@birmingham.gov.uk

and copy to your local councillors requesting a reply:
