Greetings, Neighbors:
In case you missed the Village board meeting last night, the Wednesday Journal published a short report here:
https://www.oakpark.com/2024/06/18/river-forest-officials-vote-down-zoning-changes/
Please note this comment by Trustee Brennan:
“I’m overwhelmingly impressed by the amount of time and effort put in by our residents, especially those on the south end,” Brennan said.
One neighbor wrote this note to the full Board and wanted me to share it with all of you:
"Thank you, Katie Brennan, for your recognition of the massive burden on our neighborhood! Residents along the Madison Street TIF have been at it even before the TIF that includes our homes was enacted ... It was 10 years ago this month when we started our fight against EMSL (a chemical testing lab) going into the former MedStar building on Madison Street directly next to my backyard. For 10 years, we have been fighting irresponsible development right next to our homes, and WE ARE TIRED!"
Here is a video of the Board meeting:

As the trustees' quoted comments reveal, it remains unclear whether the Village will propose another round of revised zoning amendments, continue to employ the 27-year paid planner, and pursue development under the current zoning regulations.
Until we receive clarity, please continue to display your yard signs for a few more weeks, at least through the next Board meeting, scheduled for July 8.
As usual, please write if you have any questions.
