Wildflower & Wildlife Walk @ Irvine Park, Saturday, 3PM

MUST SECURE RSVP: CALL 714-639-8480 or EMAIL jrobinson@naturalist-for-you.org with # in party to confirm participation.

Follow Barefoot Joel along the Horseshoe Loop Trail to the edge of the 400-acre wildlife corridor and Native American village site in California's oldest regional park. We'll stop frequently to observe, appreciate and identify spring wildflowers and wildlife, including the locally rare Catalina mariposa lily, lupine, northern harrier, grasshopper sparrow, black-headed grosbeak and other seasonal favorites. Bring the whole family!

DIFFICULTY: Easy for experienced hikers. Moderate for inexperienced hikers. 2-3 miles round-trip. Full sun exposure. A few hundred feet of elevation gain. Uneven terrain. Some steep sections. Not recommended for those with medical or mobility issues.

WHERE: Since it is Easter weekend, parking lots in the park will probably be full. Please allow for extra time and take advantage of overflow parking at Santiago Canyon College. From there, walk to the entrance of Irvine Park and meet us at Parking Lot G near the main entrance. See park map.

IRVINE PARK VEHICLE ENTRANCE FEE: $5

Orange City Council Meeting, Tuesday, April 22, 7PM

Speak Up for the Orange Hills – Orange City Council Meeting

WHERE: 300 E Chapman Ave, Orange, CA 92866

The new 2025 fire hazard severity map confirms what we already knew: Orange Heights is in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ).

Wildfires are becoming more intense, and evacuation routes are already overwhelmed. During the 2017 Canyon Fire 2, it took 1-2 hours to travel just 2-3 miles. Adding 1180 more homes will make evacuations even more dangerous.

Orange Heights is another wildfire disaster waiting to happen.

We encourage everyone to attend or submit a comment! Let’s raise awareness about:
• Increased evacuation risks
• Declining mountain lion populations
• Impacts to Irvine Regional Park & Peters Canyon
• Destruction of a prehistoric Native American village site

Or leave a voicemail by 3:00 PM: (714) 744-2234

Every voice matters—help protect the Orange Hills!

Court Hearing September 16, 2025

Attorney Winter King gave us an update about our lawsuit against the CA Dept of Fish and Wildlife for violating the CA Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and CA Endangered Species Act (CESA) for approving the incidental take permit (ITP) for the Crotch’s bumble bee, an endangered species candidate without any new environmental review.

The judge scheduled the court hearing for September 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.  This date may change.  The Irvine Co. has agreed not to do work until that time.

Please donate to our legal action fund.
