We need new legislation to enact stricter gun laws in America so that students and teachers can feel safe in school! Despite hundreds of mass shootings unfolding in America every year, Congress has repeatedly failed to pass major gun-control legislation. The hurdles to enacting stricter gun laws in the US are numerous and significant, but we CANNOT give up until change is made. FEDERAL LEGISLATION DOES NOT EXIST TO ENACT THESE LIFESAVING POLICIES NATIONWIDE. Last year, there were 693 mass shootings in the U.S. 34 of those shootings were in an educational institution. Over 200 mass shootings have occurred in the United States this year alone, 27 of which have been school shootings. We have full support of Oregon State administrators and senators, this movement must reach higher than that to truly impact policy changes. If policies don’t change, children can’t possibly be expected to feel safe in any educational institution.
