No More Pepsi State

The Issue

Since 1992, Penn State has had an exclusive contract with Pepsi. Not only is the University sponsored by Pepsi, but there is not a single place on campus where beverage products other than Pepsi and its partners can be found. According to the Terms of Agreement from the contract's last extension in 2012, "The University is prohibited from selling products that are competitive to the contracted vendor." This has been the Penn State standard for 30 years now, following two 10-year extensions on the contract. Let's make sure it doesn't happen a third time.

Popular drinks such as Coca-Cola, Sprite, and Fanta are nowhere to be found on campus, despite a majority of students in favor of those over the Pepsi products. Rather than continue the unpopular reign of Pepsi products, why don't we pressure the University to alter their contract so that Coca-Cola products can also be sold? We don't have to eliminate Pepsi completely, but there's no reason it should be the only drink you can get on campus. Especially when we're spending thousands of dollars for mediocre dining hall food; we should at least be able to get the drinks we like.

By signing this petition, we can come together as a community and make our voices heard to the Penn State Auxiliary and Business Services, who are in charge of purchasing all food related items for the University. We're already getting a new President; why not throw in some new additions to Food Services, too?
