The Issue

UPDATE - Once you've signed the petition, please report dust and noise concerns to the Environment Agency hotline on 0800 80 70 60. We have been urged to do this multiple times a week if necessary. The more of us that contact them, the sooner they will do something.

We've also put together a website  with ways you can record and report your issues. Visit https://commonpoint.org.uk/gorse-hill/

Since the arrival of Cheshire Aggregates and Grabs 'R' Us, the old Gas Tower site on Thomas Street has become a central point of noise and dust pollution for Gorse Hill residents. It has a daily, negative impact on local families and businesses, with real health, wellbeing and cost implications for many living in the surrounding areas.

Whilst some procedures have been put in place to reduce the dust, it is not effective and the site continues to have a detrimental effect on the area and its residents. The business activities are clearly not 'light industrial' and should not be allowed to continue.

The disruption includes:

  • Loud stone grinding and digging machinery active from 7am daily (including Saturdays) - causing constant vibration and noise within homes
  • A constant stream of lorries in and out of the site - heavy weight lorries causing endless shaking and shuddering of the road and nearby homes
  • Large amounts of debris left on Thomas street and onto Chester road that is a hazard for pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles
  • A constant layer of dust covering cars, gardens and windows. Residents are unable to open windows or put out washing. Cars require constant washing.
  • A fear of health and breathing related issues - affecting everyone, but those with asthma and similar conditions more acutely.
  • Local businesses are unable to offer outdoor seating due to the noise and dust.

These are just the issues we currently know about and we're sure there are many residents that don't realise where the noise is coming from, nor that this is to be a long term situation (The company has decided they are relocating more of their business to the site).

Is this site affecting you? Do you want it to stay? If you want to help us stop this, please sign the petition and we'll share it with local councillors.
