Petition updateNo more kids with cancer: clean up the Santa Susana Field Lab"I’m saddened and disgusted."

That’s what one woman wrote after watching In the Dark of the Valley, a documentary about the Santa Susana Field Lab, the site of one of America’s worst nuclear meltdowns.

The documentary shows the heartbreaking story of my daughter Grace and her friend Hazel as they fight rare pediatric cancer. It also shows the negligence of the government agencies meant to protect our community from the site’s contamination and the disgusting attitudes of Boeing, NASA and the Department of Energy who care more about profits and power than they do about the people in my community.

From the feedback we’ve been hearing people are mad at what happened. They want to help. Maybe you’re one of them. We could use the help...we're running out of time and resources.

1. If you live in California, you can use our automated email to ask the California Governor to intervene and save the SSFL cleanup from a behind-doors-deal between Boeing and California's Department of Toxic Substances Control that would let Boeing leave most of their contamination on site permanently.

2. You can share about the documentary's encore screening: "In the Dark of the Valley" this Sunday, November 21 at 8pm (EST) / 5pm (PST) on MSNBC. It can also be streamed on MSNBC, HuluLive, or if you don’t have cable you can use your email to login and stream it for free on NBC.

3. You can make a tax-deductible donation to help cover expenses like travel costs, educational materials, and more.

4. You can follow @PARENTSvsSSFL on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

5. You can share this petition to help us get 1,000,000 signatures. So far this petition has been a game changer for us, so just imagine what 1M signatures would do!

I hope you know how much I appreciate your concern, support and righteous anger for the radioactive and chemical contamination that gave my daughter, and other children in my community cancer. Together we can protect other kids living near the Santa Susana Field Lab so they don’t suffer like Grace and Hazel did.

Warmly,
Melissa Bumstead
