One week ago, our good friend Hazel, who was Grace’s age, passed away after a five year fight with nueroblastoma. Hazel was one of more than fifty children with cancer in our community who may have been exposed to radioactive or carcinogenic waste from the Santa Susana Field Lab. Her mother believes her cancer may have been prevented if the #SantaSusana Field Lab had been cleaned sooner.
Losing Hazel has been devastating for us, but her mother wants us to use her passing to push even harder for this clean up.
The Department of Toxic Substances (DTSC) will meet this Tuesday, April 10, to tell the public that they won't finish the cleanup until 2034, instead of 2017 like they promised. That’s almost twenty years. In that period another 200 kids could get cancer and thousands more could be exposed to radioactive and carcinogenic waste.
We’ve lost more than six kids in the last five years, how many more will we lose if we don’t fight back?
This might be our last chance. Join us on Tuesday to hold up photos of all our children to let the DTSC know they must keep their promises. They must protect our children.
Date: Tuesday April 10
Time: 6:15 - 8:30 pm
Location: Corporate Pointe Auditorium, 8413 Fallbrook Ave, West Hills, CA 91304
