U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein has been involved at critical points of the Santa Susana Field Lab cleanup issue for nineteen years as she pressured regulators and polluters to clean the site in order to protect families living nearby. In 1998 she wrote in a letter to federal regulatory agencies that "neighbors deserve to know whether decades of nuclear and rocket-engine testing...could endanger their health...I am very concerned to learn of the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy's recalcitrance to fully investigate possible cancer risks near the Santa Susana Field Laboratory." Sen. Feinstein was influential in arranging the independent EPA radiation survey of the site which found extensive radioactive contamination, and of funding two Epidemiology studies which found elevated cancer rates and evidence of offsite migration in excess of EPA levels of concern. Because her domain is federal matters, Sen. Feinstein can help us by ensuring the Department Of Energy and NASA uphold the agreements, and we desperately need her help. Today as we met with the Senator's Field Representative we shared our hopes that Sen.
