When this petition began, the goal was simple: to raise awareness, give former employees and patrons a voice, and encourage accountability.
Over the months that followed, this issue grew far beyond a single petition. Community members shared their experiences, employees spoke publicly, court proceedings unfolded, and thousands of people learned about concerns surrounding 1-Up Lounge and Cardhaven.
Today, the situation looks very different than it did when this campaign began.
The owners have legally separated and are now involved in ongoing legal proceedings. Public court filings document significant litigation between them, including multiple protection orders that were ultimately granted after a hearing.
Former employees have publicly discussed their experiences, and it has been reported that some are pursuing their own legal options. As always, those matters should ultimately be resolved through the appropriate legal process.
These cases are ongoing.
While the businesses may still exist in some form, the public record tells a much larger story. Between court filings, public statements, community discussions, employee accounts, business activity, and the businesses' own online presence, anyone interested can review the available information and draw their own conclusions.
The purpose of this petition was never to decide guilt or innocence. It was to bring attention to concerns that many people believed were not being heard. Looking back, I believe that objective has been accomplished.
To everyone who shared their stories, signed the petition, submitted information, or simply took the time to listen, thank you.
This petition will remain online as a record of this chapter in Bellingham's history. Unless there are major new developments, this will likely be the final update.
Communities deserve businesses that are safe, accountable, and worthy of the trust placed in them. I sincerely hope that everyone involved is able to move forward, rebuild their lives, and that whatever comes next is healthier for employees, patrons, and the broader community alike.
Thank you for helping ensure these concerns were heard.
