The Issue

NO MORE BLOODSHED IN PAKISTAN

We urgently call upon the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the UK Government, the Foreign Secretary, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Members of Parliament and members of the House of Lords to raise their voices for the protection of peaceful protesters and fundamental human rights in Pakistan.

At the same time, we directly appeal to the Government of Pakistan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the federal and provincial governments, the Ministry of Interior, law-enforcement authorities, security agencies and all relevant state institutions to ensure the safety of peaceful citizens and prevent any unnecessary loss of life.

We also call upon the United Nations, Commonwealth Secretariat, European Union, international human-rights organisations, governments, parliamentarians, civil society and international media to closely monitor developments and use their influence to support restraint, peaceful assembly and the protection of human life.

The international community must speak before more lives are lost.

OUR APPEAL TO THE GOVERNMENT AND AUTHORITIES OF PAKISTAN

We respectfully urge the Government of Pakistan and all relevant authorities to:

Protect peaceful protesters and safeguard their right to peaceful assembly.
Ensure that firearms are not unlawfully used against unarmed peaceful protesters.
Require law-enforcement agencies to exercise maximum restraint and ensure that any use of force is lawful, necessary and proportionate.
Respect the rights to life, human dignity, freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and political participation.
Protect journalists, lawyers, medical workers, human-rights defenders and independent observers carrying out their legitimate roles.
Ensure immediate and unhindered medical treatment for anyone who is injured.
Prevent arbitrary or indiscriminate detention of people merely for peacefully exercising their democratic rights.
Ensure that any credible allegation of unlawful killing, excessive force, torture, mistreatment or other serious human-rights abuse is independently and transparently investigated.
Hold anyone responsible for unlawful conduct accountable in accordance with the law.
Choose dialogue and peaceful democratic solutions over confrontation.
Whatever the political disagreement, the protection of human life must come first.

OUR APPEAL TO THE UK PRIME MINISTER AND UK GOVERNMENT

We ask the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the UK Government to urgently use Britain’s diplomatic voice and international relationships to help prevent violence.

We ask the UK Government to:

Raise the safety of peaceful protesters directly with the Government of Pakistan.
Call publicly for restraint and respect for fundamental human rights.
Encourage the Pakistani authorities to protect peaceful assembly and ensure that policing remains lawful and proportionate.
Raise concerns regarding any credible reports of serious human-rights violations.
Encourage independent and transparent investigation of any credible allegations of unlawful conduct.
Work with international partners, including the United Nations and Commonwealth, to closely monitor developments.
Encourage political dialogue and peaceful democratic solutions rather than confrontation.
The United Kingdom has longstanding relations with Pakistan and a substantial British Pakistani community. We therefore ask the UK Government and Parliament to use their diplomatic voice constructively in support of peace, human life and fundamental rights.

OUR APPEAL TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

We call upon the United Nations, Commonwealth, European Union, governments and parliamentarians worldwide, international human-rights organisations, civil society and international media to pay close attention to developments in Pakistan.

We ask them to:

Closely monitor the situation.
Raise concerns directly with the relevant Pakistani authorities.
Call for the protection of peaceful protesters.
Support the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
Call for restraint by all sides.
Speak publicly in defence of human life and fundamental rights.
Encourage peaceful political dialogue.
Do not wait until lives have been lost before speaking out.

This petition is not a call for confrontation.

It is not a call for disorder.

It is a call to prevent violence before it happens.

Political disagreements can be resolved through democratic dialogue.

A life that has been lost cannot be restored.

OUR MESSAGE

To the Government of Pakistan and Pakistani authorities:

Protect your citizens. Exercise restraint. Protect peaceful assembly. Choose dialogue over violence.

To the UK Prime Minister, UK Government and Parliament:

Raise this matter urgently with Pakistan and use your diplomatic influence to help protect peaceful citizens.

To the United Nations, Commonwealth and international community:

Watch closely. Speak clearly. Act diplomatically before tragedy occurs.

NO MORE BLOODSHED IN PAKISTAN.

NO FIREARMS AGAINST UNARMED PEACEFUL PROTESTERS.

NO MORE HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES.

PROTECT PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY.

PROTECT HUMAN LIFE.

CHOOSE DIALOGUE OVER VIOLENCE.

We respectfully ask the Pakistani authorities, the UK Government and the wider international community to act responsibly and urgently to help ensure that political differences are resolved through democracy and dialogue — never through bloodshed.
