The Issue

✳️ Update - On May 13, 2025, Prime Minister Mark Carney reinstated the Minister for Women and Gender Equality — and appointed Rechie Valdez to the role.

It’s a step in the right direction — but reinstating the position isn’t enough.

We’re keeping this petition going to demand full funding, transparency, and real power behind the title. Because women’s leadership deserves more than a seat — it deserves a voice that’s heard, resourced, and accountable.

-------------------------------------------

On March 14, 2025, the Canadian government eliminated the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth from Cabinet.

There was no announcement. No replacement. No plan to ensure gender equity remains a national leadership priority.

This wasn’t just a quiet Cabinet reshuffle — it was the removal of one of the few seats at the decision-making table explicitly created to represent women, gender-diverse individuals, and equity-seeking communities across Canada.

Why I'm Raising My Voice
I’m a long-time entrepreneur and educator — but more importantly, I’m a mother and grandmother to five incredible girls.

I want my daughter and four granddaughters to grow up in a country where:

  • They are paid equally
  • They are represented fully in leadership
  • They are heard at every decision-making table

When the government eliminated this Cabinet role, it sent a chilling message: Gender equity is optional. Our voices don't matter. Progress is negotiable.

I refuse to accept that.

📊 The Reality (And Why It Matters)

Today in Canada:

  • 1.5+ million women own businesses
  • Women-led ventures receive less than 2% of venture capital funding
  • Canada ranks 30th globally in political gender parity — down from 16th in 2018
  • Only 30% of federal Cabinet ministers are women
  • The 2024 federal budget slashed gender equity funding by over $100 million

These aren't just numbers.
They are warning signs that the system still isn’t working for half the population.

What We’re Demanding

Through the growing national movement No Minister, No Mandate, we are calling for:

  • The immediate reinstatement of the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth
  • A clear, public commitment to equity-based leadership
  • Transparency and accountability in how women and gender-diverse Canadians will remain meaningfully represented at the highest levels of government

📣 Every Signature Matters

This petition is part of No Minister, No Mandate, a national campaign making it clear:

A government that cuts women's leadership has no mandate to lead.
