NO KILL TEXAS. Stop Euthanasia of Healthy Adoptable Animals in Texas
The Issue
I am just one person, yet in my years of volunteering at my local animal shelter and years of advocating for animals online, I've seen countless lives innocent of any crime sentenced to death. For some animals, homeless through no fault of their own, the end arrives too prematurely via euthanasia due to overcrowded shelters. This harsh reality can be altered. We are calling for a change in animal euthanasia laws, helping us move towards a more compassionate society and “no kill” shelter system for our four-legged friends.
In addition, current spay and neuter laws allow many animals to breed without regulation, contributing to the overpopulation issue in animal shelters. This overabundance leads to the untimely euthanasia of shelter animals. Therefore, stricter spay and neuter laws must be enforced.
Moreover, soaring veterinary costs prevent many pet owners from providing their animals with the necessary healthcare, resulting in abandoned or neglected pets. It is cruicial for us to establish low-cost vet care and ease the financial burden on animal owners, potentially reducing the number of animals relegated to shelters.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized each year in the US. This staggering figure demonstrates the urgent need for reform in our treatment of animals. By changing euthanasia laws, enforcing spay and neuter laws, and establishing low-cost vet care, we can begin to reduce this number drastically.
It's time to make a change – for the animal who licks your hand without knowing you, for the dog who wags its tail on your worst days, for all those creatures that ask for nothing except love and kindness. Sign the petition to bring this change for our animals, for a more compassionate future.
- We are demanding that more time is given to help animals get adopted/rescued. End the killing of puppies/kittens, pregnant, and healthy adoptable animals .
- We are demanding that shelters advocate for their animals through social media, adoption events, websites etc
- We are demanding that shelters do everything in their power to educate the owner and offer resources to help prevent them from surrendering their pets
- We are demanding free/low cost spay and neuter as well as mandatory spay/neuter laws
- We are demanding reform of the animal medical care (veterinary) system, preventing monopolies and offering low cost health care for animals.
