Over 3 years since petition started.  Been challenging journey. An uphill battle.  We are close to the top tier of 15,000 supporters. Yet, nowhere near goal of No Kill.

Yesterday, a wise animal associate pointed out a new approach.  I want to share an excerpt with all of you:  

'We need to push for the status of animals to be changed in the US, from "Property" to "Sentient beings", this means it has to be proven that animals (especially companion animals) feel pain, fear and happiness; once their status is changed, animal welfare laws will need to be completely overhauled, it's been done in Europe and was a game changer, new legislation cannot be achieved all the while animals are still classed as "property" and people feel they can do with them what they want, once this changes, laws will need to be changed and harsher penalties can be incurred. I feel this would also make shelter reform more possible. We need to research how this change was achieved in European countries, if they can do it, why can't the US. We need to hit this from a new angle.'  

Can we pursue this line of reasoning, about altering status of pets, from property to sentient beings? This may be an important step, to stop the kill mentality.

Risa Weinstock has done nothing to improve conditions, nor has anyone else associated with the shelters in the 5 boroughs.  Please read sign and share this petition, to Revamp Our Shelters & Revamp Animal status.

If anything, during the three years since Dubba was murdered, with an approved adopter in place,  New York ACC has gotten worse not better. Recently opened 75 million dollar Queens kill pound (cannot be called a shelter) is filthy, animals in cramped cages, while killing continues to escalate.

Please read this, sign it, and share petition, so that we can reach our goal.  We have every intention, when we reach our goal, to present this to the named parties, as shelters are becoming more and more everyday slaughterhouses, rather than safe havens for animals as they were intended.

Enough is enough.  Too many people are just abandoning animals, too many unqualified shelter directors just looking at the numbers and the bottom line. Way too many killers of animals going from one facility to another. The industry needs change, and if no one speaks up it will never happen. We are here until things begin to change.

Goal is VICTORY. We will not stop until voiceless animals are protected from abuse and murder. We are dealing with slaughterhouse kill pounds, not safe haven shelters. JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL. Thank you for signing, supporting, and sharing.
