No Islamophobia! Stop Cllr Anjana Patel from becoming Mayor of Harrow in 2025

The Issue

Dear Harrow Council and Fellow Residents,

We, the residents of Harrow, are starting this petition to prevent Cllr Anjana Patel from ascending to the position of Mayor in 2025. This action follows numerous Islamophobic posts and statements she has made on social media, which openly demonize Muslims and fuel division within our community.

Harrow is one of the most diverse boroughs in England. Our community is built on principles of respect, inclusivity, and unity, values that should be reflected in our local leaders. As a Deputy Mayor and potential future Mayor, Cllr Patel’s actions have been divisive and offensive to many residents who expect their representatives to foster understanding, not hatred.

The Mayor has to fulfil the responsibilities of civic leadership and community representation, which includes attending ceremonial events and promoting unity within the borough. This role, holds an important place in community outreach and public engagement in Harrow.

Cllr Anjana Patel through her actions has shown that she is not suitable to fulfil the responsibility of civic leadership and community representation and does not promote unity and community cohesion within the Borough of Harrow.

The office of the Mayor of Harrow is an essential one. The Mayor is more than a figurehead - they are an ambassador for our borough, representing the values of our community, our democracy, and our council. Cllr Patel’s documented views stand in direct opposition to these values, and we do not believe she can fulfil the role of Mayor in a way that is inclusive, respectful, and fair to all residents. Please see the links below to independent media articles which evidence that Cllr Anjana Patel is not a suitable candidate for Mayor of Harrow.

We urge Harrow Council and our community members to consider the impact of having a Mayor who does not represent the inclusivity that Harrow stands for. Let’s come together to ensure our future leaders promote unity, respect, and genuine representation for all.

If you believe that our Mayor should represent all residents of Harrow equally, we invite you to sign this petition. Let’s stand up for a Harrow that is welcoming and fair for everyone.

Sincerely,

Amtul Karim
