Mayor Jay Arrowsmith DeCoux has called a special City Council meeting to take public comments on the Dollar General situation and retail development in general. That special meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, in City Council chambers.
***IMPORTANT***
If you are able, PLEASE attend this meeting in person. Say your piece. At the end of your piece, you MUST be very specific and state the following:
"I demand that the Grand Marais city council place a moratorium on any commercial development over 4000 square feet pending review of the city's zoning and planning."
The MORATORIUM is the main in important point. We must demand this, as it will allow the city time to put in place the necessary zoning ordinances designed to keep formula business such as Dollar General out of Grand Marais, in order to keep existing businesses functioning and healthy.
Grand Marais is not against growth - just the opposite! We welcome legitimate small businesses that add to the vitality and uniqueness of the community. But these formula businesses - not so much.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting tomorrow evening! Say hi! (I'm the short one with short hair.)
Thank you,
Lisa Gergets
