No Data Centers in Pasco County, Florida
The Issue
We, the signers are deeply concerned about the proposal to build data centers in Pasco County, as this development could have serious consequences for our homes, lands, and crucial natural resources like our water. Furthermore, the health and wellbeing of our residents should be a top priority, and the introduction of these industrial facilities poses significant risks that cannot be ignored.
Data Centers, which often require massive amounts of electrical power and water, can potentially strain our local resources and infrastructures. According to a report from the Natural Resources Defense Council, the typical data center consumes electricity equivalent to that used by 180,000 American households. Not only could this lead to electricity shortages in our area, but the increased demand suggests possible environmental ramifications such as higher carbon emissions, which contribute to climate change.
Additionally, water usage by data centers is a major concern. Industry groups estimate that these facilities can draw over 360,000 gallons of water per day. For a community like Pasco County, where precious water resources are already under pressure from residential needs and agricultural use, this presents a clear danger of depleting our local water supplies. Our water tables could drop, irrigation needs for farmland might suffer, and residential water use may face restrictions—this is not the sustainable future we envision for our community.
Moreover, the presence of heavy-duty infrastructure and increased traffic around these facilities may degrade our roadways and disrupt the lives of county residents. Noise pollution, too, is an inevitable byproduct due to the operations of massive cooling systems associated with these centers, contributing to unwanted disturbances in what is currently a peaceful environment.
We urge local officials to listen to the concerns of citizens and prioritize the sustainable development of Pasco County. We can explore better alternatives that align with our eco-friendly goals and community well-being. Perhaps investing in green technologies or supporting local businesses could foster a healthier economic growth that does not compromise our environment and way of life.
Please sign this petition to help us protect the natural beauty and health of Pasco County and make our voices heard. Together, we can ensure that our community thrives without the potentially detrimental impacts of Data Centers.
