No Coronation for Chuck Schumer: Demand New Senate Democratic Leadership
The Issue
To: Members of the United States Senate Democratic Conference
We want money out of politics. And that change must begin at the very top of our government.
We cannot demand campaign finance reform while allowing congressional leadership to remain insulated from scrutiny over its relationships with powerful donors, PACs, super PACs, and lobbying organizations.
The American people deserve representatives whose first obligation is to their constituents. Not AIPAC. Not corporate donors. Not special interests. And not any foreign government.
We have spoken.
A new congressional majority is an opportunity for new accountability, not an automatic renewal of the political establishment.
Senator Chuck Schumer has served as Senate Democratic Leader since 2017. Yet he has not endorsed Medicare for All, and his longstanding political relationships with pro-Israel advocacy organizations raise questions among constituents concerned about the influence of money on American foreign policy.
These are substantive policy and accountability concerns that deserve consideration in selecting the next Senate Democratic Leader.
This petition calls for a change in leadership—not simply another election that preserves the status quo.
We call on members of the Senate Democratic Conference to vote against Chuck Schumer's continuation as Senate Democratic Leader and select a new leader.
The next leader should demonstrate independence from powerful political donors, support meaningful campaign finance reform, commit to Medicare for All, and place the interests of American constituents at the center of domestic and foreign policy decisions.
No position is inherited. No leadership seat is guaranteed. No politician is above the people they were elected to serve.
