No Cell Phone Tower in Veteran's Oasis Chandler, AZ

No Cell Phone Tower in Veteran's Oasis Chandler, AZ
The Issue
Veterans Oasis Park is a protected recreational and environmental space, widely valued for:
Its role as a nature preserve and bird sanctuary
Its scenic views of the lake, wildlife and nearby mountains
It's Field of Honor dedicated to military veterans
Its Nature Center used by families, schools, and visitors
Its proximity to residential homes built with the expectation of preserved open space
Placing a communications tower, regardless of camouflage, fundamentally conflicts with the purpose and character of the park and Field Of Honor, which is adjacent to the proposed location. It would be an eyesore for visitors and residents, and a potential hazard to the abundant wildlife.
We respectfully request that this proposal be rejected or withdrawn based on the following considerations:
1. Incompatibility with Park Use:
Veterans Oasis Park was established as a natural refuge, not infrastructure space for private utilities.
2. Proximity to Residential Homes:
The tower would be placed immediately adjacent to established neighborhoods, creating visual, environmental, and quality-of-life impacts for residents.
3. Existence of Viable Alternative Locations:
Industrial, commercial, and transportation corridors exist within reasonable coverage range and are far more appropriate for infrastructure of this scale.
4. Availability of Existing Technology Solutions:
It is also worth noting that most residents today use modern mobile devices that support WIFI Calling which significantly improves call quality and reliability indoors without requiring additional tower infrastructure in sensitive locations. Many residents report strong service today, particularly when connected to home or business Wi-Fi networks.
We believe cellular coverage needs can be met without sacrificing protected parkland or imposing undue impact on nearby homeowners. We respectfully ask the City and Verizon Wireless to pursue alternative locations that balance infrastructure needs with community values.
