No CAA in Tripura

The Issue

Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced the state's intent to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), despite strong opposition from political parties and the indigenous communities. We, the concerned citizens of Tripura, urge the government to halt this implementation due to the severe consequences it poses to our state.

The CAA threatens to drastically alter Tripura’s demographic composition, potentially marginalizing the indigenous Twipra, Brus, and other native communities. This move could incite communal tensions, disrupt social harmony, and erode our cultural and linguistic heritage, especially as Kokborok, the native language, is already struggling for recognition and preservation.

Historically, Bengali settlers were welcomed as refugees fleeing persecution. However, the continued settlement threatens to overshadow the rights and existence of the indigenous population. The CAA could further strain our resources, create socio-economic disparities, and heighten regional security concerns.

We call on the Tripura government to reconsider the implementation of the CAA. Conduct a thorough impact assessment, engage in meaningful consultations with tribal leaders, and implement safeguards to protect our cultural and linguistic heritage. Let us prioritize the well-being of Tripura's native communities and ensure a harmonious and inclusive future for all.

Sign this petition to stand against the implementation of the CAA in Tripura and protect the rights and heritage of our indigenous communities.
