No Bell AI Data Centre in Quinte West
The Issue
The City of Quinte West is planning to approve a Bell AI data centre at 7 Riverside Drive in Quinte West. This data centre will cause severe noise pollution, environmental damage, health and safety concerns to those in and the surrounding areas of Quinte West, be a strain on the power grid, and cause incredible damage to our local flora and fauna.
The citizens of Quinte West and the surrounding areas say NO to AI data centres.
Make your voice heard on Thursday September 17th at 6pm at the Quinte West City Hall Council Chambers. Sign this petition to show how the community does NOT WANT this data centre. Email the planning committee, mayor, and councilors daily to show that we as a community are serious. There is a sample email below.
To the City of Quinte West,
The citizens of this town DO NOT want the proposed Bell AI Data Centre at the proposed location of 7 Riverside Drive, or anywhere else in this town. We are concerned about the environmental impact, noise pollution, grid overload, negative health and safety impacts of the members of this and surrounding communities, and water pollution. This proposed Data Centre is for a corporation, NOT the benefit of our citizens. The few jobs that will be created are not worth the trade of environmental disaster. Make the right choice and vote against this proposal.
Sincerely,
Name
There have been comments about changes to the description of this petition. I changed it within the hour it was posted when I was advised it may be beneficial to do so after learning I was incorrect about the cooling system this centre would use. I admit that I should have edited it as I did in facebook groups- clearly and without removing the original text. Unlike those pushing this centre and AI itself, I can admit my mistakes. I'm one person who wanted to make a change- I don't know everything. In the original post I made comments about brown water and water pollution. I was misinformed that this data centre would use water cooling rather than a closed loop system. Closed loop systems are not environmentally friendly- in fact, they can use more water than the water coolant systems.
My mistake was clearly identified in emails to the planning committee, mayor, and all councilors. I apologize for removing the original comments about brown water and editing the petition without clearly stating I was. That mistake does not justify building a data centre. All points still stand true. Those who are more educated than I am will be at the meeting on September 17th, and will be able to better articulate these points. I know a decent amount about these data centres- I can't know it all. That is the importance of community.
