The Issue

In May 2026, DartPoints, a Dallas, TX corporation, purchased the Lexmark 29-acre campus at 740 W New Circle in Lexington, KY. Their stated purpose is to use the ‘data center’ zoning designated in the 1980s for IBM’s 89,000 sq ft facility to develop a hyper-scale data center across the property’s 29-acres for artificial intelligence and high-density computing.

While a moratorium was placed on data centers prior to DartPoints’ application for permits, we believe that the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government should have anticipated the threat of AI Data Centers to our community and worked to modernize data center regulations well in advance of this recent purchase.

This development would cause severe issues for all Lexington residents in the way of:

  • Massive Energy Demands / Increased Costs
  • Water Demands and Contamination
  • Air Pollution
  • Infra-sound / Vibrations
  • Lowered Property Values
  • Health Concerns to Humans and Animals

We, the residents of Lexington KY, urge the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Planning Commission, LFUCG, Lexington’s General Government and Planning Commission, Lexington’s Councilmembers, and Lexington’s Mayor to hold DartPoints, the Lexmark facility, and all existing and new ‘data centers’, ‘computer centers’, and ‘data processing centers’ to regulations that would prohibit all hyper-scale, AI, and/or high-density computing.

Allowing DartPoints to move forward with their plans would set a precedent and open the floodgates for additional developments that undervalue and exploit our properties and local resources for corporate interests, denying the interests of the collective residents and taxpayers who actually live here.
