STOP THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE DUKES BROOK WETLANDS

The Issue

The wetlands on the property containing the Dukes Brook, and the buffers, are essential for the environmental quality of the area.  The wetlands serve to protect our natural ground water resources by naturally filtering the water as it runs towards the Raritan River, and by reducing the impact of flooding to the Neighboring communities, which are already prone to flooding issues.  This property should be protected and never be developed.  Dukes Brook is a tributary that flows to The Raritan River, which is an important source of drinking water for the central portion of New Jersey and it is already the 12th most polluted river in the country.  We must protect this land so it can continue to serve its function.

The massive amount of impervious coverage that now exists here in this very dense area, has caused more and more flooding in our neighborhoods.

We urge you to make the decision to protect these wetlands and not allow the development of this property.  We are residents and taxpayers that will bear the adverse affects of an unnecessary and environmentally irresponsible development.
