Dear Signers,
Earlier this month, I had sent emails to the Road Transport Ministry asking for a meeting with the Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari, so that I could explain my concerns about the NGT’s ban on 10-years-old diesel and 15-years-old petrol vehicles in Delhi-NCR, and its detrimental effect on senior citizens’ mobility. The Ministry has acknowledged my email and this petition with a response.

The Consultant at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) informed me that the Ministry had filed an appeal in the Supreme Court in March 2019 seeking an exemption for certain categories of non-transport vehicles, from the ban imposed by the Honourable National Green Tribunal (NGT).
As I could understand, the case hasn’t been listed for hearing yet. I have still requested the Consultant to accommodate my request for a meeting with the Minister.
I think there is a case to be made for the Ministry to approach the relevant court and seek relief and exception for senior citizens only, from the ban imposed by the NGT on ‘old’ vehicles.
The present appeal seeking exemption for the categories mentioned above, could take a long time for impact. Meanwhile, many senior citizens like me will be robbed of our right to mobility, and will have to rely on modes of public transport that are not comfortable, or safe for those in old age.
Please continue supporting this appeal. If you want, you can send me your videos explaining your views about this policy to me at eklavayyabedi@gmail.com. Let’s take this petition to 1,00,000 signatures, by the time we get a meeting with the Honourable Union Minister.
