Online gaming shouldn't be locked behind a paywall. Consumers shouldn't be forced to pay for something that should be free, in exchange for features that they may not want in the first place.

What we're asking is not for a completely free service - you can keep the subscription model - We're asking for the just the basic online gameplay to be free. Things like voice-chat, exclusive deals, free games, etc, you can still charge for as you wish. Basically, we want what Sony used to do with the PS3 (Free online + Optional Premium online).
