Dear supporters,

Thank You!!!! We are almost to 50,000 signatures on our petition for PCOS Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Because of your voices, dedication and advocacy we are making strides with organizations like PCOS Challenge in Congress!

1) The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, Education & Related Agencies released its report language accompanying its FY2022 budget bill, which is being marked up today. Great news - our PCOS language is included! (see below). Our report language was prioritized by at least 44 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives (up from 33 Members the year prior).

“PCOS affects up to 15 percent of women and is a significant risk factor for multiple cardio-metabolic conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders, high blood pressure, obesity, sleep disorders, and others which may significantly increase risk for adverse COVID-19 outcomes. Emerging data also link the risk of severe COVID-19 with certain factors such as low vitamin D levels, hyperandrogenism, inflammation, and ethnicity predisposition, all of which are directly associated with PCOS. The Committee encourages NHLBI, NICHD, ORWH, and NIDDK to investigate the risk of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection in the PCOS patient population and the strong overlap of risk factors for both worse PCOS cardio-metabolic manifestations and severe COVID-19. Findings should be disseminated to healthcare providers, PCOS patients, the general public, as well as highlighted for clinical practice. The Committee also encourages NIH to report on research that has been conducted on PCOS and its impact on cardio-metabolic health to date in the FY23 Congressional Budget Justification. Finally, the Committee requests that PCOS be added to the NIH Research, Condition, and Disease Categories reporting.”

2) The House 2021 PCOS Resolution (H.Res.471) was introduced on June 11th and currently has 92 Cosponsors (89 Original Cosponsors, up from 59 Original Cosponsors the year prior). See a list of Cosponsors here.
