#BuhariResignNow: President Muhammadu Buhari must be charged with Crimes Against Humanity
The Issue
In recent days many Nigerians nationally came out to peacefully protest, against the insidious nature of the dilapidated Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) institution who have been accused of: extrajudicial killings, unlawful detention, kidnapping, torture, extortion and robbery. These protests have been peaceful and showcased the resourcefulness of Nigerian youth; with the creation of Helplines, Legal Aid, Bail Funds etc. The #EndSARS protests represent a watershed in the history of demonstrations in Nigeria.
On the 11th of October 2020 the current DG of Police, Mohammed Adamu (who also needs to resign) released a statement alleging the disbandment of SARS as a unit. This is no news as the same proclamations were made in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019 - frankly, we are tired. They disbanded SARS but police officers are still killing and unlawfully arresting peacfeul protesters!!
Today, 20th October 2020 Security Agents opened fire on peaceful #EndSARS protest in Lagos. This is genocide by the Nigerian government and this impunity can rain no longer! We, the people are tired of being led by trigger-happy incompetence. The curfew was announced at 12 that it began at 4pm yet by 7pm the army were shooting?! These are unarmed, peaceful individuals; these actions are unforgivable and unconstitutional! The government is echoing what SARS officers say "I will kill you and nothing will happen". This is atrocious and can no longer continue. This is a crime against humanity and Buhari must be investigated and charged in the International Criminal Court (United Nations, Rome Statute)! People were singing the national anthem and waving their flags yet the military were shooting, is this life we want to continue? This is the biggest demonstration of bad governance the world has ever seen. There are reports of dead bodies being taken away in trucks so their families cannot find them and their names can't trend. This is sadistic governance!! How is the response to your citizens begging for basic human rights?
Over 12 years, Buhari essentially begged Nigerians to be President. He was granted the opportunity and now when the nation is disarray he chooses to stay silent. Silence in the face of injustice is complicity with the oppressor. We cannot be ruled by our oppressor! Not especially when it is elected office. He must resign immediately.
Muhammadu Buhari sees little to no value for human life, particularly evinced by countless innocent Nigerians have been brutually murdered under his watch than at any other time in the history in Nigeria (aside from the Civil War). From insecurity, sluggish economic growth, stained anti-corruption crusade to rising illiteracy, starvation, the problems are boundless. Amidst this chaos, Buhari seldom communicates with the Nigerian citizens he ought to be accountable to. Rather, he spends his time jetsetting between Nigeria and the UK.
Too many innocent people have died and their blood must count for something. Nigerians said #EndSARS and the government responded with bullets. We will never forget! #BuhariResignNow #BuhariResignNow #BuhariResignNow #BuhariResignNow #BuhariResignNow #BuhariResignNow #BuhariResignNow
