The undersigned encourage the governing bodies of the City of Cambridge to do everything within their legal power to facilitate the creation, construction, and running of the Thalia Theatre at 288A Green St., Cambridge, MA.

The opening of The Thalia will bring many benefits to Central Square including the creation of new jobs and the attraction of visitors from outside the area to attend shows, shop, and dine.  Further, The Thalia breathes new life into a space which has been unused for over a decade.

In the past several years, Cambridge and the greater Boston area have lost many small- to medium-sized performing arts venues, while the demand for those spaces has increased.  This has driven many performing artists away from the area, sometimes permanently relocating to places like New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles.  It is our fervent hope that the creation of the Thalia will help reverse this trend by providing a venue to attract performers from both near and far.
