Perennials over Parking - Save Bedlington's Majestic Tree

Perennials over Parking - Save Bedlington's Majestic Tree
The Issue
For generations, people from the town of Bedlington, Northumberland, have enjoyed the beauty of its majestic Willow Tree. Following plans to build a new Lidl supermarket, the tree is set to be cut down and removed in order to provide additional spaces for Lidl's car park. Cutting the tree down will provide a mere 4-6 additional spaces.
This tree means a lot to the people of Bedlington. Both local hospitals have named their maternity bereavement rooms after this tree. The incredible Teardrop Group, who provide support for families suffering the loss of infant, use Bedlington's Willow Tree as their symbol. The sentimental value that this tree holds is staggering.
Bedlington has recently seen its fair share of losses. There currently stands a now closed community centre in the location of the new proposed Lidl building. It is enough that Bedlington has lost its community centre and many shops and local businesses without losing a beautiful part of its history as well.
Although we welcome the new Lidl as it will provide many much needed jobs and will encourage people from the surrounding areas to visit, the people of Bedlington are here to ask Lidl to reconsider its car park plans. Surely, with a little time, effort, and careful planning, the plans can be reworked around the Willow Tree. We don't believe that 4-6 additional car parking spaces warrant the destruction of this beautiful tree.
Remember, without trees, there would be no life.
