NHS Support for ADHD, ASD and all Neurodivergent Adults in the UK

The Issue

Where to start?

If you're like me you went through life knowing you're a bit different but not sure why.

Well that's because we (Neurodivergents) are, our brains are wired differently.  For many of us it's because we are on 'the Autistic Spectrum' (ASD), have 'ADHD' or others have learning disabilities.  We live in a world that isn't ready or educated for how we think and act. So we must adapt and conform to the norm.  Now this is where my request for help kicks in.

My background.  The process of being referred, assessed and finally diagnosed with neurodivergence spanned over five years. This was due to the lack ASD or ADHD services available on the NHS.  So?  So, there are many of us looking for help but none is forthcoming, and even when diagnosed there are still no services to support us.  It's a continuing struggled to gain access to diagnosis, medication and subsequent care plan.

In my instance I can not be prescribed medication due to a lack of services but I have been diagnosed. As I approach my 50th year, I find it unbelievable that I can't access the needed help for this lifelong condition, which has had profound impacts on my life I'm just coming to grips with.

I'm not an isolated case. Across the UK, countless others are subjected to daily struggles due to being neurodivergent and not being able to access diagnosis or support.

Our numbers are significant and growing, yet our needs remain unmet. The NHS does not currently support adults diagnosed with ADHD or ASD. Waiting lists for assessment in the private sector exceed two years (once they are re-opened), and the complete process can take about five years or more. This calls for immediate attention and intervention from a diagnosis and treatment perspective.

We must urge the Government to take neurodiversity needs seriously, to augment proper support, assessment, and care, significantly for those diagnosed and awaiting diagnosis alike. We represent a large part, a vibrant diversity, of society who contribute significantly to our nations fiscal revenue and flourishing industrial sectors. Our needs must not be neglected; our voices must not be silenced. By signing this petition, you are calling on the Government to ensure the NHS provides sufficient services to support neurodivergent individuals and adequately meet their needs. This isn't just a fight for neurodivergent individuals; it's a campaign for a more inclusive, understanding society for us and our children.

Please sign this petition and share, then share some more, pretty please.  Thank you for reading
