Perform regular breast cancer screening starting at 25 years old

The Issue

At 26 years old I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I didn't even realise it could happen in someone as young as me.

When I was first told I have 4/5 chance of having breast cancer, my world fell apart. I was told they don't understand why I have it so young. I was so scared. I literally went to get a lump checked, 99.9% sure it was a cyst or fibroadenoma. I was due back in work the next day... I haven't been back on the road since. I never expected what was next.

Since then I have heard so much about young people in their late teens and early 20's being diagnosed with breast cancer, it's not just me!

The current age for regular mammograms begins at 50 years old. Something NEEDS to be changed!! This NEEDS looking into to help try and save more lives by identifying breast cancer early! I've recently been in contact with a doctor who has stated they have tried to get the NHS to lower the age for a long time but have been unsuccessful.

Therefore I have started this petition to try and contribute towards this decision being made once and for all. They managed to do it for the smear test, why should breast screening be any different?

Ultimately the best test is checking yourself regularly. Check your breasts, chests and armpits for any lumps, bumps or abnormalities.

Listen to your body as it will tell you itself when something isn't right!

Abbie TutchingsPetition StarterI'm a 27 year old Paramedic, diagnosed with ER+ Breast Cancer in September 2021, aged 26 (4 days before my 27th birthday). I'm so grateful for the NHS and my work place for being so supportive. I'm just trying to give back and raise awareness about BC!
