Since this offer is so easy for the Newport News Peninsula SPCA and so clearly the right thing for Shadow, I am incredibly frustrated about the delay. Wanting to present a solution as opposed to a complaint, I reached out to thirteen sanctuaries before approaching the shelter. None of them responded with the level of commitment demonstrated by Pat Craig, Executive Director at the Wild Animal Sanctuary (TWAS) and none of them could compare to the expansive habitat and experience (36 years) they can provide. The kind of generosity Pat has shown is remarkable and not to be taken for granted. Pat cares about these animals, and he knows what this could mean for Shadow! But, it has been two months since the offer was made with no action from the shelter, and that is two months less for Shadow to begin his adjustment and begin enjoying his new and wonderful habitat. He deserves to taste the life that was stolen from him. The Newport News Peninsula SPCA has stated on their Facebook page that their "professionals" have recommended that Shadow spend the remainder of his life in the same small concrete cell he has only ever known. This is a travesty and the very definition of cruelty. Life in prison! Thanks to all who lend their voice for Shadow - who cannot ask for his own freedom!! Please keep sharing!! I will not give up on Shadow! #shadowtheleopard
