Stop the planned grotesque 18-storey building on Newcastle's historic Ouseburn Quays.

The Issue

The plans to completely destroy the character and environment of the Ouseburn must be stopped.

Current proposals submitted by commercial developers 'PfP-Igloo will annihilate Newcastle's historic and much loved Ouseburn quayside. They are well underway and must be blocked while they are still in planning.

The monstrous 223ft apartment complex, plus the surrounding eight story blocks that the developers want to build on Malmo Quay, will fundamentally and permanently change the character, views and environment of Newcastle's historic quayside in the most damaging way possible.

“The site belongs to the whole of Newcastle, this affects everyone in the city and in the North East. It is one of the most important pieces of land in the country and this is an eyesore.” Graham Woodford, local resident.(source: Evening Chronicle online)

The plans have now been put forward by PfP-Igloo to the council for approval.

PfP (Places for People) are a commercial building developer that claim to also 'build communities'. This proposal will destroy a historic 'place' and is unwanted or needed by the 'people'. It is nothing more than another money-making commercial land grab by the private sector.

'Igloo" the partners of PfP, use 'People, Place and Planet' as their advertising slogan. In this project, they could not be more out of line with their own declaration.

We must urgently ensure that this atrocious scheme is not supported by Newcastle City Council and blocked now, while it remains in the planning stage.

This petition will be presented to the council's elected leadership and the Planning Committee.

No plans, either current or future should be so out of line with the character, environment and history of the Ouseburn.

Make your voice heard and let's passionately protect our beautiful city while we still can.
