Save Newcastle WildlifeNewcastle upon Tyne, ENG, United Kingdom
May 12, 2016
Woolsington Hall has made the local news again. Our letter to the Secretary of State asking him to reconsider his decision to allow inappropriate development in the green belt has been reported in the Chronicle. Thank you to everyone who contacted Newcastle City Council to express concerns over the future of the site. Meanwhile a freedom of information request has been submitted to Northumbria Police to obtain further details about the investigation into the Woolsington Hall fire. A response is expected by 8th June. Newcastle City Council’s planning committee is considering the latest application for the hall on Friday 27th May. They will meet at 9.30am in Newcastle Civic Centre. The planning application for hundreds of houses 30 metres from Havannah Nature Reserve will also be considered at this meeting. We are encouraging people interested in preserving the wildlife and green heritage of Newcastle to attend and send a strong message to the council that more must be done to protect our greenbelt and wildlife. Over 6,400 people have signed the petition to save Havannah Nature Reserve’s red squirrels and we hope to see a big crowd at our ‘Red Squirrel Rendezvous’ on Sunday 15th May. Everyone is welcome and details can be found on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/811784902287158/
