Historic England has been on-site to assess the damage at Woolsington Hall and provide advice on stabilising the remains of the 17th century hunting lodge.
When asked about the implications of the fire and the future of the historic setting they merely asserted their position as solely an advisory body to local authorities.
Newcastle City Council stated it was in negotiations with Cameron Hall Developments regarding the site and that although the planning committee was minded to approve the initial planning applications, final permission had not yet been granted.
They are currently seeking legal advice.
It is understood that the remaining fabric of the building is being secured to allow forensic teams access to examine the cause of the fire.
It would appear that investigations will not commence until the property is rendered safe, however, the latest report is that demolition has already begun and it is not known how this will affect forensic examinations.
It is also still unclear how Cameron Hall Developments Ltd will proceed with the development.
The chief executive was interviewed by local television station ‘Made in Tyne and Wear TV’, following the fire and footage can be seen here http://www.madeintyneandwear.tv/player/ (Bulletin 9pm- 30.12.2015 Part 1 at 4.33 minutes)
