Newcastle City Council’s planning committee was today due to decide the fate of Woolsington Woods, however, the meeting has now been postponed for another three weeks following the news that a vital document – the council ecologist’s report that recommended refusal for the controversial application – had not been made publicly available until two days before the meeting, despite having been produced in February. This report was not included in the planning officer’s report.
In the ecology report, the ecologist states that he is unable to recommend approval for the scheme and adds:
“While I support the proposals to bring Woolsington Hall and Park back into use, I feel the level of enabling development and habitat loss is too high a price to pay and cannot be adequately mitigated or compensated for.”
This delay now gives us the opportunity to gather even more signatures for the petition. In the last few days the story has been covered on BBC’s Look North programme as well as appearing several times in regional newspapers.
The committee will now meet on 17th July. Please help us reach 10,000 signatures.
