Newcastle City Council's planning committee will consider the Dewley Hill application next week.
Planning officers have recommended that the planning committee refuses permission for Banks Mining's plans to mine at Dewley Hill.
This is on the grounds that the plans would 'not be environmentally acceptable with respect to landscape and visual impacts and impacts on biodiversity during both the operation and restoration' and would constitute 'inappropriate development in the Tyne and Wear Green Belt'.
Officers conclude that the development would 'not provide national, local or community benefits' to outweigh the impacts.
