Newcastle City Council has refused our request to present this petition at the next full council meeting. 

We have been advised by the council's democratic services that presentation is not possible, as the petition relates to a live planning application and is therefore a matter for the planning committee to consider, not the full Council.

We disagree.

This petition represents far more than just a planning application and refusing to acknowledge the mounting opposition is a betrayal of local democracy.

Given the overwhelming public interest, we have written to Newcastle City Council's monitoring officer to request a review. 

The monitoring officer is responsible for ensuring ethical governance of the Council.

Our collective opposition will be made known outside the Civic Centre on Wednesday 3rd April, from 5pm.
